The average time taken by plastic bottles to decompose in a landfill is close to 700 years.

Composting will take place based on the principle that Ultraviolet radiation, heat, humidity and oxygen will photodegrade plastic.

If kept at the right settings, This device is sure to shave off a couple hundred years.

In whisper mode: Ultraviolet light bathes the plastic bits in the waste tank. Voices whisper all of the chemicals used to make plastic and gives examples of the products produced. - Video

This 700 year project (or less) will completly reduce plastic to dust. Unfortunatly the chemicals released into the water and dust particals are more dangerous and will be potentially more toxic when returnd to the earth.
